About the Teacher
It is a pleasure to begin a new school year at Diamond Point! This will begin my 37th year teaching students with hearing impairment. I received my Bachelors/Masters Degrees and Regular/Specialist teaching credentials from USC. Prior to coming to Pomona, I taught at the John Tracy Clinic in Los Angeles. I worked as a speech/language tutor and then became a Parent/Infant teacher for children aged birth to three. For one year, I was an Educational Fellow at the House Ear Institute where I learned about cochlear implant technology and participated in a year of professional growth. In 1991, I came to Pomona to teach an auditory-oral preschool class and Parent/Infant program. I then taught a primary total communication class for a few years before becoming an itinerant teacher, working primarily with students mainstreamed in regular classes at various school sites within the district. For 6 years, I taught a special day class for deaf and hard of hearing students at Diamond Point. I am excited to say that this is the fifth year for our Inclusion/Blended Model Program for our students. All of the DHH students are fully included in regular education classes with their peers at their own grade levels. This has been an exciting change, as we are seeing both academic and social benefits for each of our students. The success of the Inclusion Model depends on the the willingness of General Education teachers to differentiate their instruction, use special equipment, and work with the Special Education team. We are fortunate to have awesome teachers who are willing to do all of this to help our DHH students reach their potential.
I live in Eastvale with my husband, 4 children, and dogs, Linkin and Lacey. I enjoy Zumba, yoga, and pilates, baking, decorating, shopping, dining, and USC football.
Evelia Cervantez is our instructional aide who supports the DHH students in their regular education classes. She has worked in the district for 18 years. Mrs. Evelia is married with 4 children. She enjoys biking, running, hair styling, and doing make-up.
